Knitters and Crocheters – The Row Counter on Your iPhone

Did you know that you have a row counter on your iPhone (and, I assume, on Android phones as well)? I recently ordered some digital row counters (these fit on your finger and are reasonably priced) after getting fed up with using the hash mark method of keeping track of my knitting rows. Being the impatient person that I can be at times, I decided to see what I could find laying around that might work. I’d used the stopwatch feature of the clock app on my phone to figure out how long a recent project had taken, and remembered that there was a little “lap” button that seemed like it would work.

Short story shorter: it worked. I could just push the “lap” button at the beginning of each row (at the end of the row, if that’s how you roll) and voila… row counter. As an added bonus, when I forget to push the lap button, I can easily see it because the “lap” time is twice as long as other rows. (I just faked the above data, but you can see that row 3 was probably two rows.) I can also then do a “short lap” to catch up.

Did you find this tip useful, or have you come up with your own unconventional row counter? Please like, comment, and/or share!
