When your identity has been pain…

… you stop doing things. Physical pain, especially the chronic variety, slows you down and keeps you from doing much of anything.

And then, maybe a miracle happens. You finally find the magic formula for relief. Now what? What do you do when you suddenly find yourself feeling so much better but in the habit of not doing much?

This is the conundrum in which I currently find myself. A significant reduction in back and shoulder pain (this will be the topic of another post) but still in the habit of doing very little physical activity.

It’s exciting to be able to move again. But with my habit of keeping movement to a minimum, I’m at a bit of a loss. So I spent an inordinate amount of time wandering around. Finding (and rediscovering) activities to enjoy.

So, if you’re starting on your healing journey, my advice is to prepare. Find your activities and integrate them as you can. It will be worth it.
