After digging deep into the memories that really bother you, it’s time to take a look back at your accomplishments. Sometimes we get so caught up in our stories and fears that we forget all the really cool and good stuff we’ve done. But I have yet to meet a even one person who doesn’t have some really inspiring tales of things she’s overcome and awesome stuff she’s done, sometimes with little support.
For me, one of my proudest accomplishments is graduating college and getting my license to practice public accounting. On the face of it, that may not sound like much. However, I got pregnant while I was in my last couple of years of the degree program and I left my son’s father before he was born (long story, but it was in my and the kid’s best interests). So, for 9 months I was a very single mother (no help or visits of any kind from the father… like I said, it was in our best interest that I leave). I was a full-time student, had a full-time job, and had a new baby. And, in order to get my license without needing another 30 hours of credits, I had a tight deadline that I could just meet if I went to summer school. And I did it. It was exhausting and emotionally draining and I never want to do anything like that again, but I DID IT. And I’m proud of having done so.
So, circling back around, what memories (preferably of things you’ve done) really inspire you? Give yourself the credit you deserve. Be proud of your accomplishments. And know that with what you’ve done before, you can do amazing things again.
