In other words, where do you have conflicting desires or stories? Do you want more money but also believe that it is evil? Do you want to be pretty but hate all the pretty girls? Do you desire to change careers but feel that you’re too old?
If you truly desire something but are holding yourself back because you think it’s bad, it’s time to examine the stories you have about why you think it is bad. (OK, that wasn’t a great sentence. You know what I mean.) Is money evil, or is it merely a medium of exchange? Why do you think money is evil? Is it because you’ve seen people with money who act like jerks? Just because they do that, does it also mean you have to? Really dig deep here. There is nothing wrong with your desires. But if you think they’re somehow wrong, you’ll never get them or even pursue them. If you think it’s wrong to want the things you want, you’ll never have them.
A lot of the time, we cannot see the how to get what we want. Then we justify not pursuing it by making it bad or wrong. You don’t have to see the whole journey mapped out ahead of time – you just need to know the direction you’re going and take the first step. Then you just have to keep looking to what you want and take the step after that. The big thing is to “keep your eyes on the prize” and keep moving. Will you go off-track sometimes? Yes. But you’ll learn and grow along the way and as long as you keep moving towards your goals, you’ll get there.
